12:05 am...AMAZING MOVIE!!!  We are big Harry Potter fans over here.  We just finished a week of watching all of the Harry Potter movies and we were so excited go to the midnight show early this morning.

Alex and her friends got in one of 3 LONG lines to hold our places at around 5:00 in the afternoon yesterday.  She said it was fun, especially when they realized Starbucks was making Butterbeer Frappuccinos!
The rest of us arrived around 10:30 pm.  I was sure I would fall asleep.  But there was so much excitement in the air, it felt like the middle of the afternoon.
Matt ended up going on a young men's three day trip, so looks like we'll have to go again!
They let us all in around 11:00.  At that time all the phones came out to play games to pass the time.

Notice the method of keeping kids awake??
 Husbands too...
I don't usually eat much after midnight, but I made an exception for my favorite dark chocolate covered raisins.  YUM.

Us parents passed the hour finding out what "color personality" we each were.  Two blue wives and two white/blue husbands.

BLIMEY!  THIS MOVIE DID NOT DISAPPOINT!!  I didn't even yawn once!  Sophie was even glued to the screen.  I believe I must see this again.  Just to understand the whole "Harry at the train station then going back to Hogwarts" thing.  I didn't get it even when I read it.  Any insight would be appreciated!!

Alex's 8th Grade Promotion

 Seriously...
I am in shock that Alex isn't my little baby anymore.
The thought of her in high school is so CRAZY!!

Here she is with her favorite teacher, Mr. Riley.

Off to ninth grade...and seminary...and surf team...and mia maids...and big kid things.  I can't believe it!!

roller skating

Sophie took a few friends from school to the roller rink for her birthday.

So cute!

Matt brought his friend.  Boys are so funny.

Matt takes out almost takes out poor Julia at the end of this video.

I have to come back to this post and write a list of things I love about Sophie!  (Thanks, Jessie, for the idea!!)

1.  Sophie is always up for anything!  She will be in pj's and ready for bed, and if Steve says, "Who wants to go for a ride with me?" you can bet Sophie is first in line.

2.  She eats spinach for a snack.

3.  Sophie is a natural nurturer.  She comes into the nursery every Sunday with me to see and play with the toddlers in our ward.  She said, "One day, I will be the nursery leader."  She loves our neighbors' children and will always make them feel loved and special when she sees them.

4.  Her friends name their pets and stuffed animals after her.  They have since preschool!

5.  She is HILARIOUS.  She has a real grown up sense of humor (sarcastic) and makes all of Matt and Alex's friends laugh.

6.  She has a love/hate relationship with the piano.  She has quit twice only to beg to sign up again.

7.  She still loves baby dolls and carries Travis around everywhere.

8.  She wrestles with Matt and knows all of the wrestling terminology.

9.  She has the funniest singing voice in the world - it is meant to be that way - I promise I am not making fun.

10.  She is LOVES dogs!  She asks to go to the puppy store or the humane society on a daily basis.  When asked to go to someone's home, the first thing that comes out of her mouth is "do they have a dog?"

I love you Sophie!!!!  Happy Birthday!!!

4.

Sophie is 9!

Here are a few images of Sophie's birthday.  Thank you to the ward for not bidding on this long board/skateboard so we could buy it!!
Here is Sophie in her traditional "first photo being (insert age in this case 9)" picture.

Her activity days leaders gave her this box of her favorite cereal - so breakfast was easy!

This was so cute - I was thrilled she wanted a baby doll for her birthday...still young! After school we went to Bears Buddy's and Toys to adopt a baby doll.  She has had her eye on this preemie for 3 months.

World, meet Travis Grady Arnold.

Sophie wanted BJ's chicken strips for dinner.  Check!

We squeezed into a booth with minimal quarreling/elbowing.

Sophie and I ran down to the beach for a quick picture under the pier.  It was a bit windy - I don't know how people play beach volleyball in teeny bikinis when it is that cold - but they do!  And we watched for a few minutes.

On the way home Sophie asked to get feathers in her hair.  Why not, birthday girl!

Of course, she picked every color in the feather world and she loved them!  Until today when she wants me to take them out cuz they hurt.  I told her to hang in there - we will see if she makes it a week.  We then went home and had birthday apple crisp.  YUM.  HAPPY BIRTHDAY SOPHIE!!

drawing wars

Tonight was one of THOSE nights.  Alex drew a picture that she was proud of.  It was a cute cartoon of a girl with big eyes and long hair.  When she showed Matt, she expected praise.  Alas, she heard Matt laugh and ask if Sophie drew it.  BIG mistake.  So Matt tried to make it up to her by drawing a picture of Steve and I.

Notice that Steve is holding a Book of Mormon and a legal contract.  I am holding a spoon and fork.  Hmmm...

I don't understand the bunny thing...

?

Alex wasn't impressed.

So he took it to the next level.

He went on her computer and found an image that said  I <3 U and loaded it to be her home screen wallpaper.  Then he put the song "You're Beautiful" on a loop and it played as the screen was set to the home screen I <3 U image.  He put it on her bed so when she came in, she would be serenaded while she looked at the image.  That would be precious except the image I <3 U was written in poop letters.  Well this actually turned Alex's frown upside down and now we are happy again.  (But not until after I drew a picture of Matt...why is my symbol a fork and spoon????)

Happy Birthday Steve!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY STEVE!!!  Life is a bit busy so I just snapped a few pics of Steve's birthday breakfast...a green smoothie!!  And the girls got him a head massager (which he loves).

We had a family dinner of a steak bbq and, his favorite, funfetti cake.  WE LOVE STEVE!!

Easter 2011

Easter has come and gone.  I am SO glad Sophie is still young enough to love doing the holiday-type activities!
She was excited to color eggs and colored about 30 of them with me.  She even ate a few...which is an Arnold first.
She was excited to get up and go on our Easter egg scavenger hunt.  She jumped out of bed and followed the clued with a less enthusiastic Alex.

At least Alex got out of bed!  I can't say that much for Matt...

Steve's holiday and random-day-gift-giver dropped off an Easter basket full of goodies.  (Thanks Kang???)
Then off to church!  I can't get Matt to stand still long enough for a picture.  I think it will be easier when his braces come off :)

Saturday with family

My sister and her kiddos were here for 2 weeks and now they are back in Spokane, and it is SO quiet around here!  It was so fun to have them here.  Sadly, we were not on the same spring break schedule, so they had to put up with our daily running around.  They were here for a few typical Arnold Saturdays.  These consist of a morning donut run to our new favorite donut place, The Donuttery.  OH MY YUM.  I could eat chocolate devil's food donuttery donuts every day!
Then we headed out to Sophie's soccer game.

Sophie loved having fans cheer for her!  She played her best game ever - and she was awesome in goal!  (I can't stand it when one of my kids is the goalie!)  She stopped several shots and did great - I think - cuz I wasn't watching that part of the game much...too nervous.

We stayed around for a bit after the game and played on the field before the next teams played.
I miss you guys!!
